The Orthodox Church in America traces its beginnings to Russian Orthodox missionaries who settled in Alaska in 1794. Over the years the Church in America was administered as a diocese, and later an archdiocese, of the Russian Orthodox Church, and was known as the Russian Orthodox Greek Catholic Church of America.
